Summer School on Econometrics and Machine Learning

About the Initiative
Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is a deemed to be university and an advanced research institute established and fully funded by the Reserve Bank of India for carrying out research on development issues from a multi-disciplinary point of view. The Summer School on Econometrics and Machine Learning is part of the FLAIR 4 Big Data initiative of IGIDR that seeks to Foster Learning, Analysis, Insights and Research on Big Data. The initiative is supported by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Objectives of Summer School 2022
The principal objectives of the Summer School are:
- Develop a deep understanding of Econometric models of prediction: OLS, Logit, Probit
- Hands-on application of all well-known Machine Learning Algorithms like Random Forest, Gradient Boosting Machine, K Nearest Neighbour, Support Vector Machine etc. using real world data of Indian companies and understanding the implications of the different techniques
- Practical exposure to Deep Learning and Natural Language Processing using real life problem sets develop
The workshop will be conducted by IGIDR faculty and leading experts from the industry with knowledge in theory, empirics as well as experience in real world applications.
Application Procedure
Those who are interested to apply should upload:
a) A one page expression of Interest outlining the usefulness of the workshop for their future work and career responsibilities as well their current exposure, experience and training in artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques
b) A one page CV which must mention their institutional affiliation
Seats for the Summer School are limited. Preference will be given to early career researchers and faculty from academic institutions, think tanks and government organizations. Applicants need to register on the IGIDR website http://www.igidr.ac.in/bigdata following which they can upload their documents. The last date for submission of applications is April 15th, 2022. Selected applicants will be informed by May 6th, 2022.

Dates
The Summer School will be held in offline mode at the Institute’s campus in Mumbai, from June 7th to June 11th, 2022. Participants are required to arrive by June 6th evening and be present during the entire duration of the Summer School.
Expenses
The Summer School will provide free accommodation from June 6th to June 12th on twin sharing basis and full boarding. Participants are expected to finance their own travel. In deserving circumstances 3rd AC train fare by the shortest route can be provided. Those who need travel support must indicate so in their application. There has been an overwhelming response to the Summer School. However, since we have very limited seats, we have decided to have a rerun during September 6 - 10, 2022. Inspite of this, we could not accommodate many deserving applications. We plan to run additional progrmas in the future and hope we can accommodate you at that time.
