About SPANDAN: The SPANDAN initiative assembled and analyzed existing data with the objective of filling key knowledge gaps in the pathways from agriculture to nutrition. One of the important contributions is the integrated survey on agriculture, food consumption patterns, behavioral factors and nutrition outcomes conducted in Bihar and Odisha. The survey which was collaborative effort between Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai and National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad seeks to improve our understanding of how the nature and extent of participation in agriculture in conjunction with food, non-food consumption patterns and other behavioral factors influence the nutritional status of children less than five years of age. The overarching objective of SPANDAN is to inform policies, formulation of existing government programmes and future interventions aimed at improving the nutritional status of children.
